Education Services

Our Education Services embrace a vast Kindy to Year 6 mainstream Italian teaching program in catholic and private primary schools in metropolitan and regional country areas across Western Australia, including online mainstream teaching programs for regional primary schools, taught in line with the curriculum requirements of the Schools Curriculum and Standards Authority (SCSA).

Other programs on offer include a Language and Resource Library for teachers of Italian, regular teacher professional development and learning days, annual student competitions and more.

Our Vision

To promote the teaching of the Italian language and culture, and assist teachers in their professional learning and teaching pursuits.

Mainstream School Italian Teaching Program (K-6)

The Italo-Australian Welfare & Cultural Centre Inc (IAWCC) enriches Western Australia’s primary education through comprehensive mainstream school Italian language programs, fostering cultural values within our multicultural society.

The IAWCC administers and coordinates the teaching of Italian in many metropolitan and regional primary schools throughout Western Australia. The program, which includes many thousands of school-based children, is offered to schools as mainstream insertion lessons conducted during standard school time and is taught in line with the Italian school curriculum mandated by SCSA.

The IAWCC acknowledges with gratitude the financial contributions received from both the State Government of Western Australia through the Office of Multicultural Interests and the Italian Government through the Ministero degli Affari Esteri e Cooperazione Internazionale (MAECI), allowing the IAWCC to offer this quality mainstream teaching program to schools at a very low cost.

In 2024. MAECI approved funding for the IAWCC project: Lingua e Cultura Italiana Integrate nel Sistema Scolastico del Western Australia. Details may be provided, with prior approval, by contacting info@iawcc.org.au.

The IAWCC respects and conforms to Australian legislation and the Privacy Act 1988 (cth).

Annual Educational School Student Competitions

Engage young minds in the Annual Italian Festival Competition and Italian Language Week, a celebration for School Students of Italian, exploring national and international themes with exciting activities and prizes.

Italian Festival Competition for Primary School Students of Italian (K-6)

The Annual Italian Festival Competition for Primary School Students of Italian is organised as part of the Italian Festival held by the Italo-Australian Welfare & Cultural Centre Inc during late May/early June. The competition runs from February to early May each year and is open to all primary school students studying Italian throughout Western Australia.

Each year a national or international theme is chosen for this competition, and an activity is proposed for each year level from K to 6

Not only do the students get to win wonderful prizes at each year level, but they are also exposed to what is happening nationally or internationally. All participating students are awarded certificates.

Italian Language and Culture Week in the World

The Week of the Italian Language and Culture in the World (La Settimana della Lingua e Cultura Italiana nel Mondo) promotes Italian as a great language of classical and contemporary culture. Each year, the diplomatic and cultural network of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Italy chooses a theme for this initiative and organises a series of events during the third week of the month of October.

Coordinated through the Italian Consulate in Perth, WA, the Italo-Australian Welfare & Cultural Centre Inc assists with the promotion of events for this Week of celebrations.

Professional Learning (PL) Courses and Teacher In-Servicing

Quality in teaching methodology and techniques is a foremost area that the Italo-Australian Welfare & Cultural Centre Inc (IAWCC) continuously strongly promotes by offering regular Professional Learning Days for teachers of Italian.

The IAWCC offers full days of Professional Learning to all teachers of Italian, both at primary and secondary levels.

The PL Days involve a variety of presenters on a multitude of topics, including teaching strategies, behaviour management the use of technology in the classroom which gives rise to innovative and interesting applications for the teaching of a language.

Italian Language Library Resources Centre

Our vision is to be an essential partner in the Organisation’s pursuit of excellence in teaching and learning, as well as in the dissemination of information and promotion of the Italian language and culture.

About the Centre

The Italo-Australian Welfare & Cultural Centre Inc (IAWCC) places a high priority on improving the professional standards of its teachers and, places great emphasis on its Language Library Resource Centre to continuously expand its range of materials and resources. Resources currently available primarily consist of both multimedia and print materials: language and cultural programs on DVDs, posters, books, periodicals, charts, teachers’ flashcards, games and a multitude of other resources.

The Language Library Resource Centre is open to teachers employed by the IAWCC on a five day basis per week [Monday to Friday]. Membership is also open to all teachers of Italian in other educational systems throughout Western Australia.

Child Care Services

Italian Australian Bilingual Child Care Centre in North Perth offers childcare services catering to 0-6-year-olds, fostering bilingualism, cultural enrichment, and holistic development.

Community Engagement & Events

The community engagement and events sector buzzes with excitement: Annual Italian Festival, Gala National Ball, Italian Fireworks Night, Sweets and Wine Competitions, School Student Competitions, and Justice of the Peace services.
